Natural Remedies for Rashes
Having a rash can be unsightly and incredibly uncomfortable. Rashes are characterized by red, itchy skin, often accompanied by bumps. Rashes can be caused by a number of things, from chronic conditions like psoriasis to exposure to poison oak to viral and bacterial infections. Rashes can be treated at home with these natural remedies, but if you have a rash that doesn't go away, you should consult a medical professional.
Five Natural Remedies for Rashes:
- Olive oil is a good natural remedy. It should be applied topically. It promotes the renewal of skin and helps clear a rash. You can use it straight or mix it with equal parts honey for a healing blend.
- Oatmeal works well for a number of skin conditions. It's anti-inflammatory properties sooth irritated skin. You can grind it in a food processor and add it to a warm bath or create a paste using ground oatmeal and water and apply to the affected area for about 30 minutes.
- A cool compress can help relieve some of the pain and itch, especially if the rash is caused by heat, poison ivy, shingles or bug bites. You can use a wash cloth run under cold water or ice cubes in a sealed plastic bag. Ice should never be applied directly to the skin, however.
- Organic, raw apple cider vinegar can be applied topically to treat a rash. Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and leave it on the area for a few minutes. Repeat several times a day.
- Baking soda can also be applied topically by mixing it with water to create a paste or adding it directly to a warm bath. Leaving it on your skin too long can cause further irritation, so be careful.
