Tart Cherry (Prunus cerasus) is rich in polyphenols called anthocyanosides that contribute to the fruit’s red pigmentation. Similarly, turmeric (Curcuma longa) is rich in the polyphenol curcumin, giving the spice its bright yellow color.

These compounds, however, are much more than pigments — they are highly prized health-boosting substances because of their antioxidant properties, protecting cells from free radical damage.†
